Hey, I got Postfix to compile...on Tiger! Following a suggestion from a comment on the "Upgrading Postfix" page, I installed version 2.1.18 of SASL instead of the 2.1.22 that's suggested on the previous page, and avoided the error message I was getting when trying to install previously:

ld: Undefined symbols:
_sasl_set_path
make: *** [smtpd] Error 1
make: *** [update] Error 1

Dunno if other versions will work, but you might want to change the link on the SASL page to 2.1.18 instead of .22.

Thx again for all the help!

@Fred, if you are using leopard you need different instructions. Please look at http://diymacserver.com/installing-everything-on-leopard/ and choose your setup the new server with dovecot (bullet 6) or the old setup with courier at the bottom. Please make sure you choose the correct version (PPC vs X86 and 32 vs 64 bits)

Hmmm...now, on a different machine, running PPC Leopard, and when compiling Postfix 2.7.0, I get a similar error message:

Undefined symbols:
  "_sasl_set_path", referenced from:
      _xsasl_cyrus_server_init in libxsasl.a(xsasl_cyrus_server.o)
ld: symbol(s) not found
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [smtpd] Error 1
make: *** [update] Error 1

Any ideas?

Thx,
Fred

@Fred, sorry I'm unable to test anything on Tiger (haven't got enough hardware therefore ended Tiger support). If you can upgrade to Leopard, I will keep supporting that version as I still have a G4 mini that I keep running just for that.

Also try to move to dovecot for SASL and IMAP. I got some problems with courier maildrop and it turned out that dovecot has got a better imap server.

Hey Richard--

Thanks for the great site and for being so responsive to queries here! Some time has passed, so many new versions have been released. Has there been any conclusion or fix to this error?

ld: Undefined symbols:
_sasl_set_path
make: *** [smtpd] Error 1
make: *** [update] Error 1

The versions I'm trying are:
mysql 5.1.45
php 5.3.2
pcre 8.02
postfix 2.6.5

System is: PPC Tiger

Everything has gone fine up until the postfix make install command above.

Thanks,
Fred
